WORKSHOPS

Creative Workshops Through Music, Dance and Art

Niyabo Foundation has a history of bringing children, young people and members of the wider community together through music, dance, art and interactive creative activities.

Our workshops provide opportunities for participants to express themselves, develop their creativity, build confidence and engage with others through the arts.

OUR 2017 WORKSHOPS

In 2017, Niyabo Foundation delivered a series of creative workshops across three towns in northern Uganda.

During this period, young participants from Bright Valley and members of our over-18 Hip Hop group took part in activities that brought young people and members of the public together.

The workshops were designed to be fun, interactive and inclusive, with our youth leaders engaging participants through:

  • Art and creative activities
  • Dance
  • Rap battles
  • Music and performance
  • Presentations
  • Interactive community activities

These workshops created opportunities for young people to share their talents, interact with their communities and develop confidence through creative expression.

OUR 2019 WORKSHOP PROGRAMME IN GULU

Building on our 2017 experience, Niyabo Foundation continued its workshop activities in 2019 with a full week of workshops in Gulu, northern Uganda.

The week provided an extended opportunity for children, young people and community participants to engage in creative activities and develop their skills through music, dance, art and performance.

The programme also strengthened our experience in organising and delivering community-based creative activities and demonstrated the value of providing young people with positive spaces to learn, participate and express themselves.

LEARNING THROUGH CREATIVITY

Through our workshop programmes, we have seen how music, dance and the arts can bring people together and create opportunities for learning, communication and self-expression.

Our approach encourages participants to:

  • build confidence and self-esteem;
  • develop creativity and communication skills;
  • work together and learn from one another;
  • explore music, dance and different forms of artistic expression; and
  • develop positive connections within their communities.

BUILDING ON OUR EXPERIENCE

The experience gained through our workshops in 2017 and 2019 continues to inform Niyabo Foundation’s approach to music, cultural education and community engagement.

This experience has helped us understand the importance of creating accessible, enjoyable and culturally meaningful activities for children and young people.

As we strengthen and expand our work in the UK, particularly in Barnet and surrounding London communities, we are building on this foundation to develop new opportunities for children and families to participate in music, cultural education and creative activities.

WORKSHOP MEMORIES

Photographs and memories from our previous workshops will be added to our gallery as we continue to document Niyabo Foundation’s journey and the children, young people, artists, volunteers and communities who have been part of it.
